Batch of 2015 | B.Tech and M.Tech Chemical Engineering
NIT rourkela is one of those top notch NITs that you would come across with exceptional infrastructure and experienced faculties. Students come from different states represent the the diversity it exhibits. Being from a chemical department I feel extremely lucky for the infrastructure, labs and sophisticated equipments it provides. The cultural as well as technical fests along with international students meet are the moments where students from across the country as well as outside India get along each other, participate and exchange values and knowledge. Well everything is improvising but the curriculum is still in its stone age. Labs (of many other departments) have equipments that don't work and some departments have repeated curriculum. In short every bit of money the college is spending on buildings, drillings, filling , drilling and again filling and it continues so on. The money is also well spent on stupid road signs and making barriers that fall off so often that you would never see it intact and need reinforcements twice in every one month. The placements stats are poor and worse for dual degree students except for CS guys, well that is I expect to be same for every other college. Let's talk about the residence. Rooms with fast internet facility is the only thing that a student dreams of after a tiresome academic session. Food provided is very poor and limited and is very monotonous. But the college has saviours named "backpost" and "night canteens" which are the hangout hubs for every student even in nights. Putting all together this college has given me the best 5 years to cherish for the rest of my life.
