Originally, this institution began as Arignar Anna Government Arts College established in 1967, at Karaikal, a region in the Union Territory of Puducherry in India. NAAC ‘A’ accredited affiliated college offer various Undergraduate and Post Graduate courses. Located in a small area of 2.09 acres, the college has a total student headcount of 1,214 students, with a nearly equal male to female split of 579: 646, respectively. The institution occupies a staff of 40 faculty members while offering 20 courses in 6 degree programmes in arts and sciences.

Arignar Anna Government Arts and Science College provides a wide range of courses which is as follows. There are twenty academic courses offered at the institution and these can be offered at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Science stream and Commerce .The programmes offered to achieve the undergraduate degree take three years to complete while the postgraduate courses take two years in most cases.
