Batch of 2019 | MBA
Think beyond the IIMs! With placements that are at par with IIM A, world class faculty, and fees that is peanuts, can you argue that this isn't the best bschool in India..or for that matter, Asia itself. FMS has been offering MBA (and not PGDM) from ages. It has Asia's largest finance lab(I lost count of the number of bloomberg terminals now). Seriously, I wonder why it isn't ranked at 1! Just because FMS doesn't have hostels? I do not see ANY other parameter where FMS doesn't have an edge against any bschool in the country.

FMS does not give you the cliched B-school plush infrastructure, what it does give you is the opportunity to realise your corporate aspirations with no frills-value learning through learning by doing. The institute boasts of a entirely student run MSA(Student body) which works towards placements,domain-specific-mentorship,peer based learning which is an essential part in the rigorous everyday itinerary of any typical FMSite. The institute has an excellent record of placements and has incorporated Leadership talk series a.k.a Arthashastra talk series by eminent industry veterans, holds regular Know your Alumni sessions(an informal meet up over tea) and further plans to invite women achievers in corporate engagements to foster balance of perspectives on the corporate student engagement platform. The institute is currently trying to raise the gender ratio from 1:7,every student passes the CAT score(90% weightage)and extempore ritual(10%)to get admitted to FMS.Life at FMS is bonding over with people over assignments with sacrosant deadlines, match screenings, parties and 15 min breaks between classes. You get to compete with highly competitive top CAT percentilers to bag the Dean roll's of honour for the top ten 10% of the students securing highest marks in the exams yet you also get to learn valuable insights within the classrooms through case simulations, participatory interactions with the faculty which lends a subtle value to the knowledge base of the student.Apart from access to HBR e-resources,students' need of other e-resources is trying to get addressed by raising enough funds to provide superior learning.I completely owe my summer internship at Tata Steel to the faculty and fellow peers.Coming to the accomodation aspect,An FMSite has great deal of flexibility in choosing a rented place to stay as FMS is a non residential campus,it provides a break from the usual hostel bound atmosphere. The USP of FMS being in the Delhi-NCR region also acts a great opportunity for students to get involved in live projects and derive the most out of a low fee-no EMI after MBA system.

Maximum dreams realized per sq. metre

Coming from Marutius, I actually was not very comfortable in the first few months. The level of hard work and effort I had to put was very high. This but helped me to shape the person I am today. Though FMS does not has it's own hostel but I was lucky enough to get International hostel of Delhi University. I found a new home away from home in FMS and DU. I am placed in AB Inbev and look forward to a great career ahead.

A place where dreams are fulfilled

Life at FMS can be defined as one which teaches you multiple lessons in a very short span of two years. FMS in itself a small world inside DU, wherein a student has experiences which turn out to be lifetime learnings. FMS is a small building with students whose dreams are not confined to the area the college covers. With limited resources and efficient management, a total of 600 (or more) students study on campus, which has two Lecture Halls with a capacity of 200 students each and around 10 rooms with an occupancy of 80 students each. Even though there is dearth of rooms, the knowledge sharing and the level of intellect that students and professors have is unmatchable. The professors are one of the bests in Delhi University which is a reason for the top rank that FMS holds. In terms of placements, FMS ranks in the top 5 MBA colleges of India, which is well deserved and something every FMS student is proud of. It is a building whether dreams are realised per square inch, and with every upcoming batch the flag will fly high.

Life at FMS

It was wonderful to spend two years in FMS. Great industry exposure. Learnt to work in time frame. As FMS is part of University of Delhi, we got the opportunity to use its infrastructure. FMS has the highest ROI among all B-Schools. As a foreigner I enjoyed the stay in International Students House which is part of University of Delhi. Placements are one of the best thing in FMS where I got the chance to work with a leading FMCG Company.

About College:

The University of Delhi, popularly known as DU is a central university located in New Delhi. It was founded back in 1922, though some of the colleges affiliated to it, predate the formation of the university itself. Its constituent colleges are now spread-out all over Delhi. In terms of the number of students enrolled at the various levels, the list of affiliated colleges, the number of courses on offer and the people employed, DU is the largest university in India. It is also one of the largest in the world. DU serves a total of sixteen faculties, divided into eighty- six departments across seventy- seven constituent colleges and five more institutions attached to it. This is done from the two main campuses- North and South.

The Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) is the main management education wing of the University of Delhi. It was established back in 1954, which makes it one of the oldest business schools in the country, even older than the first of the IIMs. It is considered one of the finest in the country. Till 2010, the FMS used to recruit students using its own, separate exam, but from 2011 onwards, this is done using the CAT (Common Admission Test) itself. Post the exam, interviews are held along with a round of extempore. Admissions here is one of the toughest in the country, as, across the country, the FMS is one of the most sought-after colleges for an MBA. The return on investment is one of the highest here among all the business schools. This is due to the extremely low fee being charged here. The placements though are extremely lucrative. The overall infrastructure is also good as students are able to use a lot of the common facilities available to the DU. There are three major courses on offer here. One is the flagship two- year MBA. Another is the Executive MBA for working professionals. There is also an Executive MBA for Health Care Administration (HCA). Besides these, there are doctoral programmes as well. MDPs (Management Development Programmes) take place year- round.

The FMS has been a pioneer when it comes to forging ties with educational institutions abroad. There are collaborating partners in countries such as USA, UK, Belgium, France, Spain, Germany and the Netherlands. Some of the key institutes collaborating include- ESADE (Barcelona, Spain), INSEAD (France), Manchester Business School, Rotterdam School of Management, University Bielefeld, Wisconsin University, UC Berkeley and UC Fullerton. Within Asia, there are exchange programmes with partners in Pakistan, South Korea and China. These are with the Lahore University of Management Sciences, Indo- Korean Youth Exchange Program and with the Indian Youth Delegation to China. There have also been dignitaries on campus from countries as varied as Australia, Portugal, Switzerland and Singapore besides the already mentioned nations. Research is another important discourse over here. To this effect, several working papers have already been published, while others are in the process of getting there.

Due to the history of the institute, the FMS has among the most illustrious of alumni. Top companies today are headed by FMS alumni. Some of the organizations headed by FMS alumni include- CBNC India, GE Money, BHEL, ABN AMRO India, Taj Group of Hotels, Whirlpool, Citibank, Readers Digest, YES Bank, EIL, Ranbaxy, Olam International, YUM Restaurants, P&G and Tata Chemicals among others. Maintaining good contacts with such alumni and all others as well is the task of the Alumni Relations Cell. The Media Relations Cell meanwhile works as the mouthpiece for the Management Science Association (MSA). A very important cell is the Entrepreneurship Cell which assists students who wish to take up the choice of entrepreneurship. There are also several student clubs for co-curricular and extracurricular activities. These societies are named as- Systems, Cultural, Finance, Marketing, Sports and HR & OB. There is also a Consulting Club and a Scholastic Council. The Team Fiesta manages the annual fest. Vihaan is the social service cell of the FMS. It involves students in various community- welfare activities.

All this has helped the FMS be consistently ranked high up across different ranking platforms. The Business Standard newspaper has given the FMS a “Super League 1” category. Among business schools, the Outlook magazine has placed the FMS as 4th all India, while the Business Today has placed it at 7th. The Careers 360 too has ranked it 7th. The good rankings, in turn, have fuelled excellent placements at the FMS. The maximum recruitments have taken place in the area of sales and marketing. Consulting has been another major profile recruited for. Some of the key recruiters in recent seasons have been the likes of – Cipla, Coca-Cola, Asian Paints, Bajaj Auto, TCS, Uber, Swiggy, Amazon, Flipkart, Nestaway, PayTm, Ab- InBev, HSBC, Axis Bank, IDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, YES Bank, IBM, PwC, EY, Godrej, RIL, BCG, Airtel, Deloitte, Capgemini, Accenture, Infosys, Citibank, Lenskart and Goldman Sachs among several others.
