Bharathidasan Government College for Women, one of the well known colleges in Puducherry was established in the year 1968. Bharathidasan Government College for Women is approved by the University Grants Commission and accredited with an A grade by NAAC, Bharathidasan Government College for Women deals in undergraduate programmes only for women’s education and empowerment.

The programmes at Bharathidasan Government College for Women are offered in full-time mode. The undergraduate programmes include BA in English, Economics, History, Sociology, BSc in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Computer Science and BCom courses. Since the college is affiliated with Pondicherry University, thus the admissions to all programmes are based on merit, where the CUET UG course is also considered.

The college has its own placements and training cell that looks after the placement activities of the students, as per NIRF 2025 data, the placements team has helped 182 undergraduate students in placing at a BGCW Muthialpet median salary package of Rs 1,80,918 in the year in 2023–24.
