Central Tasar Research and Training Institute Ranchi, established in 1964, is the premier government institution in India. CTRTI Ranchi is dedicated to training and research in the fields of Tasar Silk Cultivation and Production.   

CTRTI Ranchi is under the administrative control of the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, GOI and is affiliated with Ranchi University, Ranchi. A postgraduate diploma (PGDM) course in Sericulture (Vanya silk) is offered by the CTRTI Ranchi with a duration of 15 months. Candidates with or without a background in biological science are eligible to apply for the PGDM sericulture course. The admissions to the CTRTI Ranchi PGD sericulture course are based on the availability of seats and are direct. 

However, candidates without a degree in biological sciences should appear for the screening test conducted by the CTRTI Ranchi.
