About CDS Thiruvananthapuram

Centre for Development Studies Thiruvananthapuram was established in 1970 and is an autonomous college affiliated to Centre of Jawaharlal Nehru. The institute offers courses in economics at two level of programmes. The CDS courses include postgraduate and doctoral level courses. Before applying the candidate should ensure that they meet the CDS eligibility criteria of different courses offered by the college. The admissions to the course will be based on the marks obtained by the candidates in their past academics. CDS has a separate placements to assist the students in their employment after completion of their graduation.

The placement cell acts as a bridge between the students and the industries. College Infrastructure

The campus to too small to even walk. There are a few cultural events on campus. The campus is so small that if you play loud music from your hostel, people from outside the campus complain about it to the police. Police has also visited the campus a few times. The place is far from the main parts of the city. In the evening you can go for a walk but don't expect clubs and cafes here. Trivandrum itself is a beautiful city, you can visit many places to visit here.

Syllabus of MA Economics in CDS College :

Microeconomics:Consumer behaviour Utility maximization and Demand, Theories of production and cost, Choice under uncertainty, Perfect Competition and Monopoly, Basic models of Oligopoly and Cournot, Bertrand and Stackelberg

Macroeconomics: National Income accounting, Simple Keynesian model, ISLM model, Solow growth model, Theories of money demand and money supply, and Consumption and Investment.

Mathematics:Algebra, Matrix Algebra, and Calculus

Statistics:Probability Theory, Descriptive Statistics, Sampling, Theoretical and Sampling Distributions, and Statistical Inference

Indian Economy: Issues in the contemporary Indian economy : references include last two years Economic Survey published by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India and Reserve Bank of India Bulletin and Annual Report along with other publications.
