    About College of Sericulture, Chintamani

The College of Sericulture, Chintamani, was established in the year 1995 and is a constituent college at Chintamani in Karnataka state. It is one of its kind’ institutions recognised by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) and is involved in imparting education in sericulture and agriculture. The college has 5 programmes located on a 180-acre campus and has a total student capacity of 460 students intake. The college has a strength of 27 faculties that provide better personnel facilities, class size, and better student-faculty ratio. Today, the College of Sericulture, Chintamani, is one of the unique institutions exclusively focused on the progress of knowledge and skills in the field of sericulture and agriculture.

To enhance its ability, the college provides several accoutrements for students and learning activities throughout; the campus has well-equipped laboratories for teaching and research purposes to enable students to have practical lessons on what they are trained or studying. A digitalised library with over 8000 books, 40 scientific publications, magazines, and newspapers forms the kernel of the academic facilities for learning. This college also provides a comfortable hostel campus with a separate section for boys and girls for the resident students. The students receive health-fulfilling sporting activities with facilities for games and a gym. The campus boasts of ICT and Internet essentials by making the teaching, learning and research processes more digitised. Other facilities include a seminar hall, a health centre that houses first aid amenities, a canteen and accommodation facilities for visiting faculty and family.

In terms of academic offerings, the College of Sericulture, Chintamani, provides five full-time programmes: B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons), B.Sc. Sericulture (Hons), and M.Sc. in Sericulture, Entomology, and Agronomy. They both take four years, hinting at the institutions thrust of offering a wholesome curriculum in agricultural sciences and sericulture. Though the number of students that may take certain courses cannot be ascertained, the college admits a total of 460 students, which is small by intention and specialisation. This averted limitation helps make instructions more personalised, as well as the efficient use of the college’s assets and facilities.

Admissions for the College of Sericulture, Chintamani, are made open and helpful to the supports of agricultural college. The college has the policy of reservation as per the state government norms and provides an equal chance to all the eligible candidates. A somewhat peculiar feature of the admission process is the favourable treatment of candidates coming from villages enrolled in agriculture. This approach is inline with the college’s reason for existence, which is to produce talent from farming communities for the promotion of agriculture and sericulture.
