DIET Kozhikode was setup in 1991 as one of the first of standalone DIETs; the institute trains teachers. Puthur PO Vatakara is co-educational of learning with a sprawling campus spread over 4 acre of lush green Back ground. DIET Kozhikode is included in National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) which makes sure that the institute passes all necessary criteria in terms of educational quality. DIET Kozhikode, for instance, has a total enroled student population of 80, with a faculty of 18 and hence, the institute fosters a proper teaching environment with a better student: teacher ratio.

DIET Kozhikode has a number of facilities that would help in the all round development of the student. Library is also established as an information store for the faculty itself without forgetting the fact that the institute is a knowledge centre for intending teachers. Well-equipped laboratories exist to fit the needs of most departments, and afford practical experiences. This is in making their sports complex not only for fostering the physical abilities of their students but also for the overall and the intellectual development of their students. 

It is a Teachers’ Education institute and provide only one course which is Diploma in Elementary Education. This program takes two years of full time study and is intended to produce professional who will give a fruitful service to the school. This specialisation can be used to focus the institute’s resources and knowledge on producing superior quality of teacher training.

The course of admission at DIET Kozhikode completely depends on the mark scored in the qualifying examination and the entrance examination. With regard to admission it adheres to the policy laid down by the state government of Kerala and the university with which it is affiliated.
