District Institute of Education and Training, Wayanad was established in 1989, and it is a stand alone institute specialising in training teachers. This institution is a co-educational one which is located in Sulthan Bathery, Kerala and the area of this school occupies 7.2 acres. DIET Wayanad is recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education-NCTE which means that the courses offered at this establishment meet with the general quality standards. This institute currently has 79 students enroled with the institute and the institute has a faculty team of 12 members. DIET Wayanad only offers one course of study, the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed,) The college has been approved for fifty students a year.

DIET Wayanad has many facilities to cater the need of additional aids for the students in their learning. The institute is equipped with a sound library that avails the student with plenty of educational materials and reading materials. An auditorium is a special room for meetings, lectures, seminars and other events, contributing to the spirit of academics. DIET Wayanad also offers only limited number of seats for the D.El.Ed course which is 50, and such limited number of students are admitted every year according to the norms of the apex body. The limited admissions mean adequate or individual focus and proper educational service delivery to each admitted learner.

The admission process being followed in the DIET Wayanad is based on merit as the institute firmly believes in the selection of the right candidates to the teaching profession. Qualifying examination marks and the score in the entrance test are taken into consideration when choosing the candidates.
