An excellent teacher education institution, Government College of Education, was established in the year 1955 at Patiala. This is a co-educational institution, established at Lehal Colony, Patiala, Punjab hosting students of Medical, Nursing, Pharmacy and Paramedical Science it has secured membership with NAAC. Get the nod from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), it functions as an affiliated college featuring a large extension of 41.74 acres land providing quality education. The college has a total student intake capacity of 220 and has a faculty of 18 members to give appropriate learning climate. The institution currently focuses on one degree programme: the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), although the institution is gradually extending the range of specialisations in this programme.

The Government College of Education in Patiala has only one full time facility that can impart the course known as Bachelor of Education or B ED. The approved intake for this two years programme is 300 and it is intended to supply a large number of qualified teachers into the teaching market later a year. The course is aimed at producing competent teachers for schools so that students successfully undergo the B.Ed programme with all the skills they require to teach.
