This college is a part of the Government College of Education, Vellore, founded in the academic year 1955-56. The institution aims to build the future of education. The B.Ed programme, which intakes one hundred students, offers basic knowledge and skills in teaching and learning processes as well as educational theories. The M.Ed programme is a postgraduate programme intended to provide advanced professional education to 50 students to prepare them for leadership responsibilities in the practice of education. The duration of both programmes is two years to give time for closer study and experience. The total student enrolment figure across the various courses conducted in the college is 199UDM; IA therefore has a policy of ensuring it offers adequate class sizes so that teaching and learning can easily take place.
