Government Polytechnic College, Chelakkara is a first grade technical education college situated at Chelakkara in Thrissur district of Kerala State was established in the year 1999. Programs offered at this affiliated college include diploma courses in different specifications of engineering approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The college occupies a vast land area of 10.11 acres and instructional capacity of 832 students, while comprising a faculty of 24 members. Sustaining this, the institute offers five three-year full-time diplomas focusing on technical human resource development in civil, computer, electronics, mechanical and computer hardware engineering streams.

It also holds modem facilities to facilitate students’ educational experience in the college. An integral part of students’ academic assets, the library has 1770 titles, 3779 volumes and 25 national journals. With a reading hall capacity of 150, it remains accessible from 8:From 8:30 to 17:30, which means that students won’t have any problems with study and research in most cases. It has also adequate lab facilities such as electronics, mechanical / computer studies lab equipped with modern equipment, Pentium IV computers etc. From an Overall development perspective, there are sporting amenities, gym, a facility for conducting events and seminars for the college. It also has a canteen for students to eat and a health center with facilities for first aid to policies of students’ comfort.

The diploma courses offered by Government Polytechnic College, Chelakkara, include five full-time programs. These are Diploma in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Computer Engineering, Diploma in Electronics Engineering, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Diploma in Computer Hardware Engineering. Every course has an approved intake of 60 students, making the cumulative capability of all courses 300.
