Government Polytechnic Sheohar (G P Sheohar) was established in 1924 as Tirhut Technical Institute. The institution was renamed as Government Polytechnic Sheohar in 1961. It is approved by All India Council of Training and Education. The college is affiliated to the State Board of Technical Education Patna and functions under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt of Bihar. GP Sheohar courses include four diploma in engineering courses in the areas of civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and electronics engineering.

 Aspiring candidates must make sure to fulfil the GP Sheohar eligibility criteria before applying to the institute. GP Sheohar admissions are conducted on the basis of  Diploma Certificate Entrance Competitive Examination conducted by the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board. Lateral admissions to the second year are done on the basis of DCECE LE exam. Government Polytechnic Sheohar facilities include computer centre, central library, laboratories and workshop, hostels, guest house and sports facilities. GP Sheohar placements are managed by the placement cell of the institute which is responsible for inviting companies for campus visits and undertaking training and counselling of students.

Government Polytechnic Sheohar is located at Kamrauli in the Piprahi police station of Sheohar district of Bihar. The institute is located just 4 Km away from the city. It can be easily reached by local transport like auto and cabs from the city.
