Established in 2020, Government Polytechnic, Umri, is an emerging institute in the field of technology at Kurukshetra, Haryana. It is a co-educational institute affiliated with the state technical education board and approved by AICTE. Located just adjacent to National Institute of Design on NH-44, the polytechnic offers six diploma programmes in different branches of Engineering. With its two faculty members, the institute lays emphasis on quality technical education for the fervent engineers. 

Most of the facilities are provided by Government Polytechnic Umri institute  which helps in making the learning time at the institute enriching for the students. It acts as the information hub, where various other educational resources are present in the library for the students. Well-equipped departmental laboratories are also located in it, where students can practically work and apply the theoretical concepts into reality. Sports facilities are also available, which help those physically inclined to have a healthy balance between academics and sporting activities. Also computerisation has been given its due importance with excellent IT infrastructure and campus-wide Wi-Fi connectivity ensuring that students are ever connected and within access of digital resources of learning.

Government Polytechnic Umri offers six full-time diploma courses. All programmes are in various streams of engineering, catering to different interests of students and one which is in demand in industry. The institute offers 360 seats for its programmes, and most courses generally have an intake of 60 each. As it is basically a diploma programme-oriented polytechnic, it shows that the commitment exists and it has been quite successful in producing skilled technicians and engineers who are ready to be absorbed into the industry or to proceed for further studies. 

Admission to Government Polytechnic, Umri, is centralised and purely based on merit consistently with the statewide procedure for admission to polytechnics in Haryana. Admission will be made on the basis of merit of candidates in the qualifying examination, usually at the 10th standard level or equivalent. This is a fair and transparent process, being a standardised one in nature. The manifold course offerings cater to different sectors of engineering and technology.
