Horticultural College and Research Institute, Periyakulam was started during the year 1990–1991 initially as a centre and later elevated to the status of a constituent college providing horticultural education and research facility. Situated at Periyakulam East in theni district of Tamil Nadu this institute occupies a very large land of 271.7 acres.
