About IITM PUNE
IITM Pune was founded as the Institute of Tropical Meteorology as a distinct unit of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on November 17, 1962, in Pune. On April 01, 1971, IITM was renamed the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) and was transformed into an autonomous organisation. IITM Pune has been under the administrative control of the specially formed Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).
IITM Pune courses are M.Sc and PhD. The MSc course is offered with a duration of 2 years, while the PhD course is of 6 years duration. Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology admission into the courses is given based on merit acquired by the students in the qualifying examination.
IITM Pune organised several seminars/events, National and International workshops, and conferences during the last year, including the Prof. Anantha Krishnan Colloquium, IMSP Annual Monsoon Workshop (AMW) and National Symposium. Library, sports, laboratories, and auditorium are some of the IITM Pune facilities which can be availed by the merit students.
