Nabakrushna Choudhury Centre for Development Studies (NCDS) is the leading social science research institution in the Odisha. This affiliated college was set up in 1987 and is dedicated to shaping young minds and giving them a new way of thinking for more than thirty years. NCDS has a unique PhD programme in Development Studies in view of its endorsement in advanced research and academics. By having one dedicated faculty member, the centre maintains n essential programme for budding researchers.
Having around 15000 volumes of books and back volumes of research journals, the library is on the way to become the ultimate source of Social Science Research in Eastern India. In addition, the quality of the resources is also outstanding. The library also holds 90 journals and periodicals and 20 vital overseas magazine subscriptions addressing social, economical, and political aspects. In line with modern trends at NCDS, it is possible to create an electronic library in an individual building with its own mini-Infrastructure. This digital amenities allows the students and researcher to access a list of catalogue database containing books, articles, and journals from the institute Local Area Network also facilitates environment that supports extensive study and research.
NCDS offers only on flagship programme at the doctoral level, Ph.D Development Studies. This is a full time doctoral programme that takes six academic years, within which students have the opportunity to engage in detail with their area of specialisation. The strategy aims at developing criticism, analysis and general knowledge of development matters among the participants.
The admission process at NCDS is also competitive given the unique slot it occupies, and the high standard of research the institute promotes. For most Ph.D. programmes, the students must hold a master’s degree in a related field and may be required to pass an entrance exam or write a research proposal.
