Post Graduate Institute of Behavioural and Medical Sciences, Raipur, Chhattisgarh, was founded in 2012. It is a specialised college. Located across the street from Rajkumar College on Swami Atmanand Marg, G.E. Road, this affiliated college occupies a 6.05 acre land area. PGIBAMS provides a niche range of postgraduate courses in mental health fields for the student population of twenty students and human resource of seven faculty members. For its part, the institute is focused on behavioral and medical sciences, as shown in the courses it teaches such as M.Sc in Psychiatric Nursing and DNB in Psychiatry. 

PGIBAMS has fulfilled a range of facilities which can be considered to be developed for the purpose of executing a revolutionary method of learning to impart the education to the students. The most significant academic tool, the library contains more than 1,000 volumes and periodicals on psychiatric and psychological subjects, neurological and other medical specialties. In skill based area there is an anatomy lab, nutrition lab, community lab MCH lab and nursing foundation lab are present in this institute. The class sizes are large and contain all the necessary facilities of the contemporary audio-visual technology. In an effort to give up-to-date technology experience, PGIBAMS has fitted a computerised laboratory which comprises of internet connection as well as a wireless connection all through the compound. 

PGIBAMS knows the need of the proper environment for living as its students. Hostel facilities are available separately for boys and girls; boys’ hostel is located in Mana Hospital canal whereas girls hostel is at separate location at tis path. In order to allow hostellers to move to and from the college with ease, the college has provided an efficient bus service. These hostels along with other facilities such as a canteen which prepares healthy food, playground and fitness centre and a medical aid post with provision for emergency first aid all enrich the educative nature of the college.

At the present time, the institute has an academic portfolio comprising two specialised courses and all are on full fledged mode. These include two-year Master of Science in Psychiatric Nursing and three-year Diplomate of National Board in Psychiatry. The M.Sc Psychiatric Nursing course has 15 sanctioned admits and the DNB Psychiatry course has 2 admits. Thus, it is possible to keep the student-to-faculty ratio low which contributes to the increase of students’ and graduates’ satisfaction with the quality of education in PGIBAMS when studying such a narrow range of specialisations. 

Admission at PGIBAMS is equally pointed at getting candidates who are most suitable to attend PGIBAMS’ specialised programmes. However, it is likely that the admission criteria of these specialised programmes are equally stringent.
