Thanjavur based Simpra College of Education is affiliated college of Tamil Nadu, India which was established in 2012. This co-educational institution is recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education known as NCTE in short, which maintains the standard of teacher education. The college occupies a relatively small one-acre plot and provides a specialised learning environment to its student body majoring in education. Having an intake capacity of 200 students and a faculty employing 14 members, Simpra College of Education has the advantage of student friendly environment. The institute at the moment provides only one programme – the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in line with the institute’s focus on the training of teachers.

Simpra College of Education owns a host of amenities that makes learning more enjoyable and productive to the students. The spacious facility of the library has more than 7000 reference books out of which 3000 are recommended excellent books both Indians and of the foreign selection. As of now, students get to study 27 journals that are either national or international out of which twenty journals belong to the field of education alone. The library has also signed up for 9 peer reviewed journals for the students, faculty and staff and provides 20 DVDs for the functioning of INFLIBNET soul 2.0 so that the students get updated with the latest advances in education and other related fields. The college maintains six specialised laboratories: REL/Education Technology, Geography, Bio-Science, Information Communication Technology Psychology, Language. These labs are furnished with latest instruments and apparatus to facilitate the concept understanding of the students. The psychological lab which serves also as learning resource centre is most fascinating where over one hundred tests, inventories, and scales are available addressing different facets of human behavior and thinking.

This college provides its Single programme B.ED having total 100seats for the students who want to become a teacher. This is a two years full course designed to equip the trainee with adequate knowledge in educational theory and practice. Teacher education as the college’s specialisation provides an opportunity to offer profound preparation for future educators. Although information regarding the graduations is still scarce, the total number of enrolees of the college coincides with the college’s intake capacity indicating that there is still a constant market for this college’s educational services.

The admission in Simpra College of Education is done based on the merit performance in the qualifying exam as well as the entrance exam. The college is bound by the policies formulated by the state government, Union Territory administration and the university to which it is affiliated.
