Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University, Regional Centre, Koyilandy was established in 1994. Sree Sankaracharya Sanskrit University aims to impart knowledge in Sanskrit, other Indian and Foreign Languages, Social Sciences and Fine Arts. It also aims to promote the study and research of Sanskrit through unanimous promotion of other languages in India and abroad, that have copiously contributed to the study of Sanskrit. 

The courses offered by the institute are BA, MA, M.Phil and PhD. Admissions into BA courses are based on the merit of the qualifying examination. Whereas PG and PhD are given based on the scores of the entrance exam followed by a counselling process. Eligible students are awarded UGC-JRF fellowships by the university.
