Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science for women was started in the year 1994 and is one of the premier institution in Tamil Nadu. This affiliated college located on a 24 acre land has been in the academic progress for more than twenty five years. Affiliated with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), the college is spread across six degree programmes, out of which 15 courses are offered. The college has in total 1327 students and faculty strength of 47 teachers thus giving them a good student-teacher ratio. The gender distribution shows a male-to-female ratio of 3:1, which indicated that the students in this study are from a diverse background. 

Subbalakshmi Lakshmipathy College of Science brings to fore some of the most advanced facilities that complement learning. The library embodies over 19,288 numbers of books volume wise and 11,448 numbers of books as tiles wise and offer more than 31,35,000 e-books numbers and 6,000 e-journals. For the physically challenged students, there are both boys’ and girls’ hostels within the compound. On a similar note, sports facilities and gymnasium bear testimony to the school’s aims and objectives of integrated development of the learner. Health centre facilitates the health of students; an auditorium is used for various event including seminars. It also offers some of the basic commodities like college canteen, transport facilities which includes the whole of Madurai city, and banking facilities which includes ATMS within the college.

Lakshmipathy College of Science provides all the necessary courses that any student, with a particular interest in the sciences, could need and or want to further his or her education. There are fifteen courses offered by the institution, these are full time undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes as well as postgraduate diploma. The course offerings fall under various fields which include Animation, B.Com Banking and Insurance, Computer Science and IT, M.Sc Visual Communication, Networking and Fire and industrial safety, Marine Catering and Hotel Management, Logistics and Shipping management and Food science and processing management. The college also provide honours programmes also such as B.Com Honours and B.Com Honours with ACCA. The total student intake now is 1327 which shows that college has good capacity in each of their course offered.
