Swami Vivekanand Government Degree College, Lohaghat, was established in the year 1979. Located in Rai Nagar, Lohaghat, Uttarakhand, this is one of the premier educational institutions. This affiliated college has a campus area of 10 acres and has been accredited by NAAC. At present, there are 37 faculty members and a total enrolment of 3,170 in the institute, which offers a wide variety of 31 courses in 8 degree programs. 

Interestingly, all the students at the college hail from the state itself, thus making the academic environment very localized. Students at the college have at their disposal a wide range of facilities that help in making their college experience rewarding. The library, the 'heart' of the institution, is properly planned and developed by a qualified professional staff working under the able guidance of the Library Council. The college has both indoor and outdoor sports facilities for cricket, volleyball, basketball, and athletics for all interested students. The institution provides an IT infrastructure whereby the students will always be given access to modern technology. It has an auditorium for events and seminars. Moreover, there are separate hostels meant for both boys and girls to facilitate the residential on-campus environment with comfort. 

Swami Vivekanand Government Degree College runs a wide variety of academic courses, extending from 15 undergraduate courses to 13 postgraduate and 13 doctoral courses. 

Regarding admission to the postgraduate and doctoral courses as well, the college selects students on the basis of merit.
