University Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, started in the year 2000, is a constituent college of Utkal University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. This is a co-educational institution which has created its niche in the sphere of pharmaceutical education and is delivering a wide spectrum of courses to the candidates who are willing to start their career as pharmacists or researchers. Supported by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), the department guarantees its graduates’ competencies correspond to the requirements of the sphere. The faculty at the institute is a committed team of 7 members with the ability to share individual attention with the students to help them excel academically as well as create opportunities for innovation.

Facilities available to the students at the University Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is diverse in a way that seeks to improve on the student’s learning process. To add on this, it is equipped with a functional library where students can access most of the pharmaceutical literature as well as research materials. Modern well-equipped laboratory together with instrumentation allows the students to obtain practical experience in almost all the fields of pharmaceutical sciences. It also values technological optimisation with well developed IT facilities, this makes student be in tune with the current advancement of the field. For those who need to live within the university compound, there are two types of hostels; the boys’ hostel and the girls hostel the hostels are comfortably made to suit needs of staying by focusing on the students’ educational needs. A campus comprises of sports grounds, eating place and a health centre which contains first aid facilities.

The department covers a wide list of courses in pharmaceutical Sciences for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. At present, it has five full-time courses in two degree programmes offered at the University. The flagship programme if the institution is the four-year Bachelor of Pharmacy which has a carry capacity of sixty students per year. At the postgraduate level, the department offers specialised M.Pharma programmes in four key areas Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, and Pharmacology. All of these M.Pharma programmes take two years to complete and admit 10 students per specialisation to train concentrated and intense profession in these core areas of pharmaceuticals.

The admission criteria within the University Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is also used to chose the most talented students for the programmes offered at the university. Most pharmacy programmes conduct national or state level entrance examination, marks scored in the qualifying examinations and in some cases, interviews also.
