  • Library

    The University has library is the central library system of the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies, Sarnath Varanasi. It is a unique information resources center for scholars of Tibetan and Buddhist studies which came into existence with the inception of the Institute in the year 1967. This library is named after a great Indian Buddhist scholar Acharya Shantarakshita of the Nalanda University, who visited Tibet in the 8th century for the cause of dharma. The library has a special collection of Buddhist canonical works in the Tibetan language translated from Sanskrit and other Indian languages. Contents of Buddhist manuscripts in Sanskrit and Tibetan languages are preserved in different forms and formats such as printed, xylographs, digital, microform, etc in this library. The library has separate sections for such forms of collection. The library collection in the fields of Buddhism, Tibetan, and Himalayan studies and allied subjects is the point of attraction for scholars at home and abroad. At present, the library holds approximately 87000 printed books & xylographs 2000 bound volumes of journals, 7712 electronic documents, and 9742 titles of microfiches and films. The library is well equipped with the latest ICT infrastructure, providing library services based on the multilingual bibliographical database of the library collections. The library is a member of the UGC-INFONET program and has full-text access to the online journals of Springer and databases of ISID and JCCC via IP-authenticated online access. In addition to print and online documents, the library possesses a rich collection of Microfiches, Microfilms and Audio Video documents, and xylographies of the concerned subjects. The collections of the Shantarakshita Library are developing following the objectives of CIHTS, which has been declared a "University of National Importance" by the Government of India.

  • I.T Infrastructure

    The University has a member of the National Knowledge Network (NKN) of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NME-ICT), MHRD, Government of India. Under this program, the Institute receives 1 Gbps bandwidth for Internet connectivity through NIC (National Informatics Center). As per the mission statement and also to meet the visions and objectives of the Institute, a sound IT infrastructure for effective use of the technology has been installed on the Institute campus. It includes fiber optic LAN among different offices of the Institute and Ethernet LAN within buildings. Moreover, to extend the outreach of network connectivity throughout the Institute campus including Residential Blocks, Student Hostels, Guest Houses, and other areas of the Institute, the wireless LAN (Wi-Fi) has also been installed. Faculty members of the Institute are facilitated with a PC to access the LAN and Internet resources for their academic and research purposes. The Institute follows the policy of PC/Mac binding to access the LAN and Internet within the campus, any member of the Institute can get access to the network, by requesting the prescribed application format.

  • Medical/Hospital

    The University has one Allopathic Health Center, situated in the Boy's Hostel. It has all the facilities of a primary health care center and a ward of 4 beds. This health center has a physician, dispensary, and other supporting staff to provide primary health care services and also to refer critical patients. Institute also has an independent faculty of the Traditional Tibetan Medicinal System named Sowa Rigpa. The faculty runs an OPD clinic for consultation and a dispensary that provides Tibetan medicines formulated in the pharmacy of the faculty of Sowa Rigpa. The Sowa Rigpa clinic and dispensary is situated in the Sambhot Bhavan (New Academic Block) of the Institute.

  • Alumni Associations

    The University has a good networking for the alumni associations.

  • Guest Room/Waiting Room

    The University has guest house/waiting room facilities for visiting faculty and student family members.

  • Sports

    The University has excellent sports and recreation facilities on campus, with dedicated facilities for football, basketball, badminton, and yoga. For students to stay fit and healthy, Yoga sessions are conducted for students to help them maintain both a healthy body and mind.

  • Gym

    The University is equipped with gym and fitness center facilities.

  • Cafeteria

    The University has a canteen facility for staff and students.

  • Transport Facility

    The University has a transport facility for students and staff.

  • Auditorium

    The University has an auditorium facility for events and seminars.

  • Training and Placement Cell

    The Motive of the placement cell is to act as a facilitator to arrange campus visits and coordinate the recruitment process of the prospective employers of graduating students of the college.
