For example, if you want appear for IAT 2019, you can be a student who has passed his/her 12th board exams in 2018 or 2019.
But nothing earlier than that.

IISER states the eligibility criteria for  SCB channel on their official website:

Students who have passed 10+2 level with science stream in 2018 or 2019 are eligible to apply for admissions and appear for IAT 2019.

However, they will be considered for admissions to the degree programmes only if they obtain the cut-off marks specified for their board.

I would like to mention the eligibility criteria for IISER below taken from the official website:


Candidates who have passed 10+2 or equivalent level exam with science stream in 2018 or 2019 are eligible to apply for admissions. Candidates will be admitted to IISER only through following three channels.


  • Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) channel
  • Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Advanced) of the Indian Institutes of Technology
  • State and Central Boards Channel (SCB)

These channels will be referred to as KVPY, JEE, and SCB, respectively.


Indian nationals and students belonging to PIO or OCI category are eligible to apply provided they satisfy the eligibility criteria described below.


KVPY Channel


  • Candidates having a valid KVPY fellowship commencing from 2019-20 academic session are eligible to apply for admissions. Additional cut-off criteria for marks obtained in 10+2 board examination is also applicable. Please see the cut-off criteria here.


JEE-Advanced Channel


  • Candidates in General category securing a rank within 10000 in the Common Rank List (CRL) of JEE Advanced 2019 are eligible to apply. For candidates belonging to the reserved category (OBC-NC, SC, ST, PD), their category rank should be within 10000. Additional cut-off criteria for marks obtained in 10+2 board examination is also applicable. Please see the cut-off criteria here.


SCB Channel


  • Students who have passed 10+2 level with science stream in 2018 or 2019 are eligible to apply for admissions and appear for IAT 2019.
  • However, they will be considered for admissions to the degree programmes only if they obtain the cut-off marks specified

Hello Sir,

Biology is not considered as a mandatory subject to apply to IISER. Science is mandatory and your son needs to have a combination of Chemistry, Physics, Biology OR Maths.

So you need not worry about Biology. He can apply to IISER.

(1) IISER test will comprise of PCMB.

(2) total of 15 questions will be there is each subject. So total number of questions will be 60

(3) 3 marks will be awarded for every right answer and 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong             answer.

(5) First of all the best study material is NCERT. clear NCERT and have your notes ready with you           and remember it. After this solve as many sample papers as you can so as to ensure whether you       have thorough understanding of topics or not.

We get very good food and the arrangement is good. Although you need to bring things like mattress, bucket etc. But otherwise hostel rooms are spacious and very clean. All other facilities mentioned are very good. We have good class room with well maintaining.

The college campus has wifi facility except for hostel rooms , but they are planning to provide there also . The college labs are well equipped and have everything you need will be there in the lab .
