Ph.D Earth and Environmental Sciences at IISER Mohali Offline Course

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is a hub of interdisciplinary research aimed at understanding and addressing Earth's complexities and environmental challenges pertinent to sustainability development goals. The multidisciplinary faculty team of EES translates into teaching possibilities spanning diverse subjects within Earth and Environmental Sciences.

The key areas of our research include analyzing regional climate and atmospheric dynamics, employing satellite remote sensing for diverse earth observation, interpreting paleoclimatic sedimentary (such as lake sediments) records, and predicting landslides and erosion patterns, to innovating bio-based wastewater treatment and water reuse techniques, exploring electromicrobiology for sustainable solutions, and investigating air quality and atmospheric chemistry. Our commitment extends to traversing Earth's history through organic geochemical techniques and delving into granitic magmatism, metamorphism, and associated crustal metallogenic processes.

The Ph.D Earth and Environmental Sciences programme can be completed with a minimum duration of three years, including the course work and can also extend upto a maximum of six years. The programme structure involves coursework, a qualifying examination at the end of the coursework, thesis work/research, and a thesis examination, leading to the award of a PhD degree. The degree is awarded by the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research.
