Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biostatistics and Demography is an offered Full-time three/six-year Doctoral program and it is offered by the International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai. Ph.D. programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years. Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the Statute/Ordinance of the individual Institution concerned.

No. of GOI Fellowship: 2 (Two). The number of Government of India fellowship may likely to increase. In addition, UGC-JRF, and other fellowship holders will also be considered for admission as per the availability of seats.

Government of India Fellowships @ Rs. 25,000/- per month for 1st and 2nd years and Rs.28,000/- per month for 3rd and 4th years available for the Indian students who have qualified NET for Lectureship in population or its inter-disciplinary subjects conducted by the UGC. Such Ph.D. fellowship also carries a contingency grant of Rs.10,000/- per year for the first two years and Rs. 20,500/- for the third year. However, the candidates, without NET qualification shall be awarded fellowship @ Rs.12,000/- per month for the 1st and 2nd years, and Rs.14,000/- per month for the 3rd and 4th years, with a contingency grant of Rs.10,000/- per year. In addition, UGC-JRF and other fellowship holders will also be considered for admission as per the availability of seats

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates having M.Phil. in Demography/Bio-statistics and Demography/Bio-statistics and Epidemiology (passed/appearing) with minimum marks of 55% or equivalent grade. Students who have qualified UGC/CSIR-JRF or any other national level fellowship are encouraged to apply for this programme. Eligible foreign candidate can also apply for admission, provided they secure financial support from an outside agency

Admission Details

The admission to the Ph.D. programme is through a three-stage process; Online Test, research proposal writing, and personal interview. Final selection will be based on the weighted average of scores of Online Test, research proposal and personal interview. The Institute will not bear any travel expense of the candidates called for the test/personal interview.
