The AR Engineering College, Villupuram was started in the year 2008 and is an affiliated college of Tamil Nadu. This engineering college, recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education, AICTE, offers its students a number of engineering courses in a 9.44 acre facility. The AREC currently has an annual student enrolment of 228 and a faculty of 57; which affords the university a specific learning atmosphere. Six engineering major programs are offered in the college; all the programs are full-time undergraduate courses. It currently has streams of Computer Science, Electronics and Communication, Electrical and Electronics, Mechanical Civil, and the newly added stream of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

AR Engineering College provides numerous versatile academic and student activity facilities. There are hostels on the campus to accommodate both male and female students and each facility contains the capability of housing more than two hundred students. Here at the college library, students are provided with state of the art course materials, national and international journals and all latest technical magazines to update themselves with the latest knowledge. The college also has facilities for sporting activities as part of the balanced education which is recognised by the college.
