BMSSA Bangalore: Admission 2026, Cutoff, Courses, Fees, Placements, Ranking

BMS School of Architecture (BMSSA), Bangalore offers B.Arch, M.Arch Urban Design, and Ph.D. in Architecture, it has been the top architecture school ever since. Admission and selection procedures of such eminent schools are very selective in judging the candidates to the most deserving and worthy ones. The school, BMSSA factors in various entrance examinations at the national and state levels, such as JEE Main, NATA, COMEDK UGET, GATE, and Karnataka PGCET. Usually, the admission process commences a few months before the start of the upcoming academic year, mostly during the months of August or September. The admission for B.Arch shall be on the basis of NATA score or JEE Main Paper-2 score, along with Karnataka CET or COMEDK UGET, the validity of respective examination score weightage policy. GATE qualifying examination scores and Karnataka PGCET ranks are considered for admission to M.Arch Urban Design programs. Three elements-the dissertation synopsis, entrance examination, VRAT Test, and an interview conducted by VTU for affiliated research centers-are compulsory for PhD programs. The eligibility criteria differ with respect to the prospective program. A candidate seeking admission to B.Arch must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects. For M.Arch, it is a B.Arch or equivalent degree. As for Ph.D. applicants, it should meet the eligibility criteria as laid down by VTU.

Application process

There are different application processes within BMSSA for different programs:

For B.Arch:

1. SIT for NATA or JEE Main Paper 2
2. Also take Karnataka CET or COMEDK UGET
3. Apply through the respective counseling processes (CET or COMEDK).
4. If selected, report to BMSSA for document verification and admission formalities.

For M.Arch Urban Design:

1. Attend GATE (preferable) or Karnataka PGCET.
2. Apply through the Karnataka PGCET counseling process.
3. For management seats, candidates will have to submit a portfolio and will be interviewed if shortlisted.
4. If selected, undertake the admission process at BMSSA. 

For the Ph.D. in Architecture:

1. Submission of research synopsis to VTU.
2. If shortlisted, attend the VRAT Test.
3. An interview by VTU.
4. If selected, admission shall be completed in BMSSA.

Generally, required documents include:

• Degree certificate and mark sheets (if postgraduate and doctoral programs)
• Entrance exam scorecards (NATA/JEE Main/GATE/PGCET as applicable)

Admission Process Degree wise

B.Arch: BMSSA has a 5-year B.Arch program that enrolls up to 120 students through merit- and entrance-based admission via performance in either NATA or J.E.E. Main Paper-2 as well as Karnataka CET or COMEDK UGET. The eligibility criteria state that students must have completed their 10 plus 2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

M.Arch Urban Design: Lasting 2 years with 20 seats, the program usually admits students based on Karnataka PGCET, for which candidates must be residents of Karnataka. The entry to the counseling ranks applicants based on PGCET after giving first preference to GATE candidates in the counseling. An entrance for management quota seats admission based on portfolio evaluation and interviews is undergoing.

For Ph.D. in Architecture: Synopsis selection in addition to VRAT Test and interview by VTU for affiliated research centers. Eligible applicants will be called for a written entrance examination, after qualifying, they will be eligible for the interview. Finally, selection will be based on interview.
