    About CSIR-Central ElectroChemical Research Institute, Karaikudi

    CSIR central electrochemical research institute (CECRI): It is the nation’s premier research organisation located in Karailkudi, Tamil Nadu was established in the year of 1948. This affiliated college approved to AICTE, New Delhi offers only a single department known as electrochemical science and technology. CECRI is spread over 300 acres of land and is providing a distinctive B.Tech course in Chemical and Electro Chemical Engineering. This institute has 156 ienrolment for students and 11 faculty members which make it capable of delivering quality education. Based on its overall vision, it is an important fact that CECRI has a strong focus on research and innovation in the field of electrochemistry.

    A number of these amenities have been commended as invaluable in augmenting student outcomes and fostering research within CECRI. The institute offers accommodation of boys and girls where each have hostels that accommodate two to four students in a room with facilities of bathroom, full environment, and compound security. To ensure the health of students and staff, there is well equipped health centre on the campus without-patient treatment facilities, laboratory, emergency etc. Institute runs an e-library system which contains up-to-date data on electrochemical science and technology where students can find journals, e-books and research papers. In terms of Physical Fitness and Health with care, there is a Gymnasium and the centre has different facilities like a floodlight basketball court as well as indoor badminton stadium at CECRI. The campus also consists of a departmental cafeteria, a hall accommodating different occasions including seminars, and enhanced practical learning and research laboratories.

    CECRI at present offers only one Direct B.Tech Programme in Chemical and Electrochemical Engineering. This is a four year course that has an approved yearly enrolment capacity of forty (40) students. This programme is aimed at giving the students a well rounded knowledge and understanding of chemical engineering and more specifically the electrochemical unit process.

    The application procedure for CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI) depends on the system of admission selected by the candidate:

    If admission via TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission) is sought:

    • Register for TNEA counseling on the official website of TNEA.
    • Fill in the application form and pay the processing fee.
    • Upload all relevant documents as demanded, including those of 10+2 mark sheets and certificates.
    • Opt for CECRI and B.Tech in Chemical and Electrochemical Engineering during counseling.
    • If given a seat, report to CECRI for verification of documents and confirmation of admission.

    If admission via JEE Main is sought:

    • Take the JEE Main conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
    • When applications open, register on the CECRI website or the admission portal.
    • Fill in the application form mentioning your JEE Main roll number and scores.
    • Pay an application fee as laid down by CECRI.
    • Upload all documents asked, including the JEE Main score card, 10+2 certificate.

    CSIR-Central Electrochemical Research Institute Degree-wise Admission Process

    B.Tech in Chemical and Electrochemical Engineering is the prime programme of CECRI having a total intake of 40 students per year. The admission pattern is divided into two sections.

    • Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA): 35 seats filled through a single-window system for TNEA. This is mainly for the candidates from Tamil Nadu. The candidates should qualify in the TNEA examination and attend the counseling session.
    • JEE Main: The remaining 5 seats are allocated based on the JEE Main score. This route is open for candidates throughout India. Students should qualify in the JEE Main examination and satisfy the cut-off criteria as specified by CECRI.

    Eligibility for both admission routes includes successful completion of 10+2 education in which Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are core subjects. Selections shall be based on merit, taking into consideration student performance in the respective entrance examination.
