The Department of Geography, which is a constituent college in Pune, Maharashtra, was established in the year 1950. This prestigious institution stands on a sprawling campus of 411 acres and excels in its research and studies in geography. The faculty consists of 10 dedicated professionals imparting education through 4 specialised courses in 3 degree programmes dealing with different domains of geography, geo-informatics, and remote sensing. 

The facilities offered by the Department of Geography are well developed for improvement in the learning process. More than 400 textbooks, encyclopaedias, atlases, and reference books are available in the library in addition to a rich collection in the central university library. The Computer Laboratory speaks of modern technology. Modern hardware has Pentium computers, printers, scanners, and special software such as THE MAPS, SPANS, and IDRISI, to name a few, which the advanced instruments of soil, sediment, and water analysis in the Geo-morphology Laboratory pride themselves upon.

The department offers a diversified full-time postgraduate course catering to specialisation in geography. These include MA Geography, M.Sc Geography, M.Sc Geo-Informatics, and PG Bachelor in Science Applied in GIS and Remote Sensing. The aim of each programme is to offer comprehensive knowledge and practical experiences to the students in their specific major. 

The Department of Geography has a very rigorous and merit-based admission process. For all postgraduate programmes, that include MA/M.Sc in Geography, M.Sc Geo Informatics, and PG Bachelor in Science Applied in GIS and Remote Sensing, the process of admissions is entrance test-based.
