The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Uthamapalayam, started in the year 1999 is a separate institution for the newly framed faculties. Situated in the Theni district of Tamil Nadu, the school is a co-educational one with a total area of 11.06 acres. Therefore, the DIET Uthamapalayam has got the approval of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to maintain a high standard in teacher education. Presently the institute caters to 39 students being a future educators' institute, it has 15 members of its faculty, where students can easily get personal attention and career counselling.

DIET Uthamapalayam provides various amenities to facilitate the students of the institution. It has a functional library whose major role is to avail essential knowledge to those who wish to become teachers. We have an auditorium on campus where various events and seminars are held following a lively academic calendar. In the aspect of comprehensive development, the institute provides various sport amenities to enable the students to have muscular developments as well as academic accomplishments. 

Departmental laboratories are present to ensure that the students have practical learning and work under laboratory conditions. Cognisant of the role of technology in today’s education, DIET Uthamapalayam has provided itself with the best IT facilities. We also offer separate hostels for boys and girls to cater to the needs of students coming from different parts of the country.

According to the courses and programmes offered, DIET Uthamapalayam mainly offers the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.). This training course takes two years and prepares students for a full-time teaching profession at the lower grade level. Even today the main course is the D.El.Ed., but everything about the institute itself stands testament to it being TTC with a specialised course and much practical learning.

Thus, DIET Uthamapalayam follows a centralised admission process for admission to the D.El.Ed course. Admission of prospective students is based on performance in the qualifying examination and may be accompanied by an entrance examination or any other method which may be prescribed by the state.
