Dr. M.G.R Polytechnic College, Arni was established in the year 1995 and is one of the renowned technical colleges situated in the Thiruvannamalai District of Tamil Nadu. This is a coeducation college which is located on a large area of land of 10 acres and by the norm of the AICTE this college is affiliated to the university, it is an affiliated college. The college has strength of 736 students and faculty members of 57 teachers, and delivers a wide range of diploma courses.

Dr. M.G.R Polytechnic College equally has a host of facilities aimed at facilitating the learning process of the students in the college. Organised by the University Library Board, the library has over 14, 050 volumes; the university also has a modern digital library; in tune with modern trends. For the students who need an accommodation, the college offers a provision of gender – segregated hostels for the boys and girls respectively; the boys hostel being able to hold an intake of three hundred and fifty (350) students. A very modern sports complex is also provided to ensure that the students occasionally exercise and don’t become confined to the classroom. For the enhancement of technical curriculum, the college has a good IT facility, an internet centre with thirty computer systems linked with thirty-two MB broadband leased line.

Currently, Dr. MGR Polytechnic College provides six full-time diploma courses of which all are for three years of duration. This institution offers various courses which include; Diploma in mechanical engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, electronics and communication engineering, civil engineering, automobile engineering and information technology engineering. These programmes are intended to meet the needs of various students who intend to be engineers and technicians.
