Fakir Chand College, founded in 1948, is one of the most esteemed colleges for higher education in West Bengal. The college is located at Diamond Harbour, South 24 Parganas district, and is affiliated with the University of Calcutta. Being a co-educational institution, spread over an area of 12 acres, the college has an enrolment capacity of 5,867 students that is ideally balanced by 58 dedicated faculty members to offer a personalised environment for learning. Fakir Chand College, with accreditation from NAAC, offers 26 courses in several programmes across various disciplines.

In the Science stream, there are varied courses in B.Sc and B.Sc Hons with specialisations including Economics and Computer Science and M.Sc. in Mathematics. For the students who wish to pursue the commerce stream, at the undergraduate level, there are B.Com and B.Com honours of three years each, while at the postgraduate level, there is M.Com course that takes 2 years for completion. The college also offers a B.Ed course of two years so as to develop an understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of teaching. 

In order to make the admission procedure at Fakir Chand College fair and transparent, the college follows a merit-based system. In the case of undergraduate courses such as BA, B.Com., and B.Sc programmes, the marks scored in the qualifying exams are taken into consideration. As for postgraduate courses, the marks scored at the graduate level in the relevant fields are used to prepare the merit list. For the B.Ed course, the students are admitted strictly on the basis of merit.
