Gauhati Medical College, Guwahati was established in the year 1947 by Dr. John Berry White, MRCS, a British Surgeon of the East India Company. The institute was established through the up-gradation of Berry White Medical School at Dibrugarh in the year 1947. The institution is the first medical college in Assam.
