About Giriraj Nursing School, Baramati

Giriraj Nursing School, Baramati, is a self-financed college formed specifically for nursing education in Maharashtra. It was started in the year 2004. Established near ST Stand Indapur Road, this is co-educational institute affiliated to INC, India Nursing Council, to provide standard education in the context of nursing. There are two full-time nursing programmes that the school accepts a total of 147 learners, headed by 11 members of faculty who are experienced nurses. Although being a small and new establishment, Giriraj Nursing School has been able to produce professional nurses for nearly nineteen years.

When it comes to the school facilities, there are a number of facilities that are supposed to make students’ learning process more effective. A spacious and well-endowed library being an important locus of information, and practical clinical laboratories, which are of paramount importance to prepare the students for the nursing profession. In order to provide comfortable and convenient living facilities for most students who come from other towns, Giriraj Nursing School also provides two different hostels for boys and girls, respectively. 

There is also a canteen on the compound to provide for the appropriate food requirements of the learners and teaching fraternity. It also has an auditorium for convening some occasions, such as seminars, which enhance academic experience. To deal with any health emergencies on campus, there is a medical facility with first aid services accessible. Another area where the school’s overtures to the child’s all-round development are evident are in sporting facilities and an existing alumni organisation to which students can easily relate with professionals in the field.

Giriraj Nursing School offers two nursing courses: both are basic professional nursing courses offering the Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) and the General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) degree. The ANM course is of two years duration, while the GNM course spans over three years in duration. Each of the programmes is a full-time programme with an approved intake capacity of 30 students, for a total of 60 seats for the year. These courses are intended to give the theoretical background information as well as skills necessary for a nurse that will help him/her have a successful nursing practice. By having focused its offerings on these fundamental nursing degree programmes, the school is able to provide adequate focus to each student that takes the programme and be well-equipped for his/her role in the health care systems.

Giriraj Nursing School, situated in Baramati, is one of the self-financing nursing institutions in Maharashtra. The intake capacity of the Institute for the two full-time nursing programs is 147 students. The admission process in Giriraj Nursing School aims to select fit candidates primarily for Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery and General Nursing and Midwifery programs.

Admissions for both ANM and GNM programs are conducted once a year at Giriraj Nursing School. The eligibility for the students is as per the norms laid down by the Indian Nursing Council. Most of the candidates are selected on the basis of performance in qualifying examinations; in some cases there may be entrance tests or interviews required.

For both the courses, ANM and GNM together accreditation allows for 30 students per course, totaling to 60 seats per annum. The admission process being competitive for a few seats has to be considered by suitable candidates making an application.

Application Process

The application process to Giriraj Nursing School, Baramati, requires the following steps:

  1. Announcement of Admissions: Usually, the school announces the initiation of the admission process once a year for both ANM and GNM programs.

  2. Application Form: Interested students will have to receive and fill out the application form. This may be on the school's website or at the admission office.

  3. Document Submission: Together with the filled-out application form, candidates must submit a set of specified documents including:

    • 10th standard and 12th standard mark sheets

Degree-wise Admission Process

ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery): Functional ANM program at Giriraj Nursing School is two years, with the intention of equipping students for nursing-midwifery upon ANM admission requirements, which according to expectations means an intake of students once every year. The program has an intake of 30 students. The eligibility criteria generally require completion of 10+2 or equivalent in a recognized board, whereas preference is given to service stream students.

GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery): GNM is a three-year course, inclusive of nursing and midwifery training. Similar to the ANM program, admission of students to GNM is done once in a year. The sanctioned intake for this program is also 30 students. The eligibility for passing GNM courses as a rule is considered to be a qualifying 10+2 per equivalent, preferably with science subjects. Even ANM vocational course graduates may be considered for GNM admission in some institutes.
