This college has a single acre urban campus. The GSB has been affiliated to the Chennai- based Anna University. This affiliation ensures approval from the UGC (University Grants Commission). It was established in the year 2009. The AYS Parisutha Nadar Centenary Foundation has been behind the establishment of this college. The trust has been named after Shri Parisutha Nadar, who was a noted educationist and political leader from this region. The management course here, has also been ratified by the AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education). It has also been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council) with a B grade rating.
The GSB is solely dedicated to management education. For this, it provides the two- year MBA. This MBA can only be taken in the field of General Management, as the Gnanam School of Business strongly believes in developing all- round managerial skills. Under this scheme, students go through all major subject areas, before deciding on there are of choice in the second year during their summer internship. The students enrolled, may opt for specialising from the areas of- Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management (HRM), Operations Management and in Systems Management. Students may take up a dual specialization, with electives mixed up from the two areas chosen.
Admissions to any branch of the PGDM is via any of the nationally or state- wise recognized entrance exams such as CAT (Common Admission Test), MAT (Management Aptitude Test), TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test), CMAT (Common Management Aptitude Test) or ATMA (AIMS Test for Management Admissions). Post the results of the concerned tests being declared, shortlisted students need to appear for the PI (Personal Interview) and GD (Group Discussion) or WAT (Written Ability Test) round. Research is another important aspect of the Gnanam School of Business. To make sure that the trainers are updated with the latest industry research findings, several FDPs (Faculty Development Programmes) are held periodically. Some of the subject areas on which these FDPs were conducted include- “joy of teaching”. “receptive teaching methodologies”, “revised Bloom Taxonomy Model”, “Data Analysis in Social Science Research” and “Research Techniques in Social Science”.
In addition to these, MDPs (Management Development Programmes) are also conducted for industry clients. These are sponsored by the corporates themselves, to help in their employees’ trainings. Some of the key MDPs held recently have been for topics such as “basic quality tools” and for “transform to lead”. Some Student Development Programmes (SDPs) are also held at this institute. This is to make students more employable by working on their personality development. One such session held recently was on the topic of “Explore the U”. For entrepreneurship, there is the Empressario. It helps develop the budding entrepreneurs among the students for the institute. Experienced trainers and entrepreneurs are invited to campus to deliver guest lectures and interact with those who have such business models.
There is also a thriving campus life, here at the GSB. Student- run clubs exist for both academic as well as non- academic matters. Emporia and Finrostra are the names of the marketing and finance clubs respectively. The latter has even started a local ‘bank’ called the Bank of Finrostra which funds all college- based events, and manages the accounting. Cyber Conquerors, as the name suggests is for Cyber Science. Opera Jaguars is for operations management and the L’ Incarnate is for HRM. Among the non- academic clubs, there is the GSB Chronicle, which prints the quarterly student newsletter here. The Samaritans helps with the CSR initiatives here. The debating society is known as the Cicero Club, named after the famous Roman orator.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM are available in the campus’s vicinity. There is a sports field where tournaments such as the GPL (Gnanam Premier League) may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all.
