The Government College for Women, Murthal, came into existence in the year 2003 in the affiliation of the college at Sonepat in Haryana. It is located on land measuring 12.7 acres. With the motto of providing quality education to women, the institution has enrolment of 763 students and a faculty strength of 30 members. Degrees at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels are being awarded in different subjects. The commitment of the college to academic excellence is manifested in the fact that it currently offers 6 degree programs spread over a wide range of disciplines to meet the emerging educational needs of young women in this backward region of the country.

Another flagship course is BA, for which an approved intake of 240 seats shows the popularity of the course among students. BA Geography Hons, on the other hand, has 40 seats, meant for those with a specific bent for geographical studies.
