This college was started by the government in September 1984 and is situated in the Jabalpur division, Dist-Mandla, tehsil Bhua-Bichhiya, village and block Bhua-Bichhiya. This is the only college in the scheduled area of tehsil Bichhiya beside the NH 12-A Jabalpur-Raipur route. The border of this tehsil touches the nearest villages of the Dindori and Balaghat districts; the border of Chhattisgarh state ends on the east of this district. There are 12 higher secondary schools (10+2) that are fed back by this tehsil. Initially in the session 1984-85 there were 45 students admitted, but in the year 2004-05 this college is conducting the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd years of arts, commerce, and science faculties at the graduate level. Also, from the session 1987-88, this college is conducting postgraduate classes on the of sociology subject. This college is recognized under 2f and 12b by UGC. The campus area of this college is 6.8 acres (2.85 hectares).

In this college, we have a career guidance cell, a personality development cell, NSS, and sports facilities for student all-over development. The personality development cell provided equal opportunities for our students to excel not only in academics but also in co-curricular and extracurricular activities. Like every year, this year also personality development activities helped our students to exhibit their talents both inside and outside the campus. A seven-day special camp of NSS was conducted in village Baba-Tola in the previous year, 2016-17. In this camp, NSS cadets had done excellent work for villagers.Under the guidance of the Red Ribbon Club, a blood donation camp was organized. 15 units of blood had been donated by the students and college staff.

The Government Degree College, Bhuabichhiya, is affiliated with R.D.V.V. Jabalpur and offers 4 degree and 5 course programs. For postgraduate programmes, a candidate should have completed his bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline from a recognised university. The specified combination of subjects and percentage required changes with different courses.
