Government First Grade College, Shimoga founded in the year 2006 is one of the premier institution in the state of Karnataka. Found in Bapuji Nagara, Shimoga, this affiliated college has been in existence for over a decade and a half continually catering students needs. The institution located in a 4.25 acre compound has over 14 courses within 6 degree programmes to satisfy learners’ different carving. The college has an I capacity of 38 committed staff members and faculty teaching, and strive towards offering quality education to students. It is a college of five and half years standing and has been accredited by NAAC which is an evidence of the college aim of ensuring quality education.

The Government First Grade College currently has a number of facilities that are meant to improve understanding of a discipline by the learners. St Okwudili women and girls development facilities have a functional library with 30,277 books, 15 Journals, and several magazines. The library also is equipped with reading room with fifty capacity for seating where students can study in a quiet environment. This is an automated library that has e-sources and e-Journals are available through resource-sharing with INFLIBNET. The college has invested in technology in other ways, and there are 12 ICT enabled classrooms and the implementation Gnanasangama scheme on laptop to the faculty members for smart classroom teaching.

Government First Grade College, Shimoga has come up with a variety of courses in terms of field. The institution offers 4 full courses of which three are undergraduate and the other eleven are post graduate. For the undergraduate course, the basic course offered is the Bachelor of Arts (BA) with elective subjects involving Historical, Economical, Political, Sociological and optional subjects in English and Kannada. The college also has the facility of BBA, BCA, B com, and B Sc with combinations in Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Computers, Botany, and Zoology. On postgraduate level, the college provides a Master of Commerce programme abbreviated as M.Com.
