Government Law college, Kozhikode was set up in 1970 is one of the premier institutions in the field of legal education in kerala state of India. This co-educational college, is situated at Marikunnu, Kozhikode, is affiliating to the University of Calicut and recognised by Bar Council of India (BCI). The college provides a wide coverage of specialisations in the field of law, featuring 7 courses available at 4 levels of degrees for those, who wants to become a legal specialist. In terms of student enrolment, that is the total admission of 253 and the faculty that has a staff strength of 18, the college offers a personalised training. The institution has incorporated quality education in well developed teaching programmes and enhanced teaching facilities.

Government Law college has all facilities infrastructure aiming at improvement of students’ learning process. An important component of any legal education, the library has more than forty thousand books and Indian as well as foreign law reports and journals. Equipped for the purpose of practical learning, the college has an effaced Moot Court where students can practice technique through mock trials. It also has fully equipped hostels for male and female students in order to offer the best accommodation for them. Other features are such as computer networking and internet services, a small shop for commodities, value added services, sports and recreation facilities and dining hall. The college also has a health centre with first aid facilities in order to be in a position to provide care for students.

Government Law College, Kozhikode is definitely equipped with quality educational programmes in law field that satisfy various learning aspirations. The college offers 7 full time courses out of which there are Under Graduate, Post Graduate, Integrated programmes offered. For undergraduate level, one can do the 3-year LLB after completing graduation or one can take the 5 years Integrated B.B.A LLB (Hons.) course. For postgraduate, the college offers specific LLM programmes in Business Law, Taxation Law, Criminal Law and Administrative Law each taking two years. Also, it is offering a 5 year integrated course known as BA LLB. Though the specific number of seats for every programme is missing, the total number of places available for all the courses: 253, so it can be said that their primary focus is given on a small number of students at a time which results in quality education being provided.

Admission policy of Government Law College is selective and very much transparent and follows the norms of the Government of Kerala. This being true, the VBU admissions into its offered undergraduate programmes such as the LLB, BBA LLB (Hons) and the BA LLB programmes, the admission is through the Government of Kerala’s entrance examinations. The Commissioner for Entrance Examinations controls a centralized counselling system in regard to the seat distribution. Likewise, for postgraduate, LLM admissions, the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Kerala holds a common entrance test. The ever-focusing on quality education and its linkages with the varsity University of Calicut is another proximate factor that speaks for the desirability of the college to nourish those who wish to make their career to be a legal luminary in the region.
