A reliable and practical guide to be the best journalist

IIJNM, Bangalore is different than other journalism colleges in India as it provides one an exposure to the various aspects of journalism. The meticulously planned schedule and professors, who are well-known journalists guide you well through the 10-months long course. Media lab with computers and updated software, library with relevant books and 24/7 access to Internet are just some of the good things of the college. Hostel is adjoining the college, which is an advantage as the students need to be up and running and working any hour of the day. IIJNM gets the top media in the country as recruiters for its placement season. So there is no need to worry about jobs. Every week the students have to produce a bulletin, newspaper and update the website. This gives a newsroom like experience which won't alienate you in a real job. The best part: The professors keep in touch with you even after you graduate from the college. IIJNM, during its course covers deprivation trips, where you will learn to report in tough circumstances and convert those stories as your thesis. Also, famous media personalities, authors and other guest professors visit the college to give students a deeper understanding of the structure and importance of media in the society. It is totally worth the stay and hard work.

The course subjects are covered in detail, and the faculty has good knowledge of the particular subjects taken by them. The curriculum is sewn to teach one about the basics of journalism and to cover the entire course in depth through practical courses. On-field experiences allow one to learn the basics of reporting and help provide good opportunities to get published. Overall, the experience has been wonderful.
