About Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Dental Sciences, Kancheepuram
Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), a popular dental education institute, was founded in 2007 and situated in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. Karnataka Indian Dental Science is NAAC accredited and affiliated to DCI, although it functions as a dental college. The institute occupies a total area of 3056 thousand sqm, and enrols 453 students as well as having 107 employees. KIDS currently has 10 programmes in two levels of degrees focusing on different disciplines of dentistry. The institute maintains a diverse student body with a female-to-male ratio of 4:1 and thus host 7 cent of out-of-state students.
Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Dental Sciences has equipped its students with all post-millennium amenities to make their learning experience more enriched. The campus is provided with a separate well-furnished boys’ and girls’ hostel with internet connection, laundry and 24-hour RO water supply. On-campus, a 650-bed hospital is available for practical exposures of the students as well as for the community. The institute also has state-of-the-art gymnasium, library, sports and games facilities. Academically, KIDS provides twenty-two AV classrooms with sixty-five student capacity each with modern teaching aids and NPTEL video lessons from IIT instructors. Other facilities include a canteen, dining hall, and a system of coaches’ and students’ transportation to and from the school from different regions of the city and its outskirts.
It has a wide list of dental programmes: undergraduate ones as well as the postgraduate ones. The BDS course, the main course of the college, has 100 seats, while MDS specialities are offered in limited seats, mostly between 2 and 3 per speciality. What makes KIDS special is that all courses are full-time, which allows treating the training as intensive and focused on dental education. The total approved intake of all the courses is 122 seats, which signifies its worst attempt at keeping quality education with small-size batches.
Currently the majority of students are admitted into KIDS upon passing national entrance examinations. As for the BDS programme, the candidate should produce a certificate or a testimonial that he has passed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Similarly for MDS programmes ASMB entrance test is the boilerplate examination which grants admission depending on NEET MDS scores.
