    About Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Chennai

    Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF), is a renowned research organisation and institute, started in the year 1996, situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This affiliated college deals with postgraduate education and research with focus on diabetes type college and other related disciplines. Located in No 4, Conran Smith Road, Gopalapuram, Chennai, MDRF has grown in research and education in the field of diabetes. The foundation provides for four doctorate programmes of full-time study, each of which takes six years to complete. With 15 dedicated professionals on the faculty, the MDRF offers a narrow, committed, specialised environment perfect for future investigators in the realm of diabetes and its complications.

    MDRF has numerous essentials to allow its undertaking of research and education. The library is extensive including 1061 books and 63 subscribed journals related to diabetes and its complications and other related disciplines. It also offers on-line browsing and computer facilities for all users. Labs in the foundation are well endowed with functional food analysis and technology tools including cereal processing systems, particle size determination kits among others as well as analytical instruments. The capability of the food quality analysis lab is that the lab is able to analyse free sugars and amino acids. In addition, MDRF has an auditorium for conducting events and seminars, and a good information technology either for research and academic work.

    Madras Diabetes Research Foundation has four doctorate programmes in total and all of them are full time programmes that covers six years of study. These specialised Ph.D. programmes cover key areas in diabetes research: Diabetes, Eye, Blood and Blood & Molecular. These programmes are specific and rather selective in their student admission policy, for the sake of churning out quality research work. The specialisations are PhD in Biochemistry, Opthalology, Diabetology, and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

    It will be necessary to note that the admission criteria in MDRF are intended to identify the candidates with a natural focus for researches in diabetes and related science domains. The admission could involve consideration of research talent of the applicant and compatibility of the applicant with the foundation’s research interests.
