MARG Institute of Design and Architecture, Kanchipuram (MIDAS) is one of the well-known institute to provide education in the architectural field from the year of 2011. This affiliated college is established at Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu and is approved by the Council of Architecture. MIDAS runs specific courses in architecture and design which are located in 2.58 acre campus. The overall number of students of the institute is 413 and that of faculty members is 25. MIDAS currently offers two degree programmes as follows: offering an undergraduate and postgraduate architectural education. One may note that the institute has been co-educational and has fully equipped facilities to provide quality education.
MARG Institute of Design and Architecture provides a number of resources available for use. Boys and girls have their hostels separated so that students can be well accommodated as they attend their studies. A well-stocked library is a source of knowledge and the IT facilities provide for the means of successful working with innovative ideas. Healthcare is valued with a gym and opportunity to play sports for the students of the institute. For the academic purpose, MIDAS has dedicated laboratory facilities and an auditorium for conducting conferences, seminars etc. Other amenities include ; cafeteria, medical amenities and a one- stop- shop in form of a convenience store within the college compound. The institute provides linkages with transport facilities and also has a students/staff parking area. MIDAS also has a fully functional alumni association and consists of multiple student clubs for students to get connected.
The institute offers two full-time courses in architecture: A B.Arch programme, total intake 120 & M.Arch programme with total intake of 20. These programmes are meant to ensure that the student undergoes full education in architectural design and theories. The B.Arch course of study takes five years while the M.Arch course takes two academic years. There are 140 student places within both programmes and MIDAS’s mission is to prepare the future architects and designers. The institute today has a total enrolment of 413 students which are a testimony to infill and trained Architecture education.
The process of admission at MIDAS a purpose of admitting talented students to its architecture programmes. Under B.Arch admission the institute considers candidates who have taken and performed well in national level entrance examination like JEE Main and NATA. In an effort to test the candidates’ ability and suitability for architectural studies these examinations are carried out. The M.Arch programme students admission is based on the exam scores like GATE, TANCET, consortium entrance test as per the norms of Anna University and Council of Architecture. M.Arch: MIDAS provides a Master of Architecture (M.Arch) programme with an intake of 20 students. Two-year postgraduate programmes have admissions based on marks obtained in entrance examinations of GATE, TANCET, or Consortium Entrance Test, as per the norms of Anna University and Council of Architecture. The M.Arch candidate should possess a B.Arch or equivalent degree from any reputed institution.
