Markaz Unani Medical College and Hospital located at Puthuppadi, kerala is an affiliated college which was started in the year of 2010. This is a co-educational institution which is a specialized college in Unani system of medicine offering a course BUMS- Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery. The number of students admitted per year into the college per course is 264 and the faculty consists of 29 members that makes it an optimum environment to train Unani doctors. The institute is probably amongst those that have embraced the NEET for admissions and this make the selection among the prospective students a criteria base selection.

Markaz Unani Medical College and Hospital has made it its policy to ensure that learners get a chance to experience the following facilities during their college education. The first floor accommodated the library that consists of 5382 books; 5012 books on Unani system, 257 on modern system, and 42 on medical journals. This resource centre shall be capable of holding around 50 students at anytime and be suitable for research and learning. The institution also avails sufficient and functional laboratory facilities for practical experience in various departments as per the course of study for the learners.

While this college consists of a Medical College and a Hospital, it has only one programme to provide – the Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS). This full-time programme take six years for the training in the Unani medical practices. This course has an approved intake of 60 seats in the college with an aim to catering the students who are interested in the traditional medicine field. 

This is whereby the Markaz Unani Medical College and Hospital requires students to write the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). Candidates planning to pursue BUMS programme, have to qualify this national level test.
