About NIFT Kannur
National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is the pioneering institute of fashion education in the country under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. NIFT Kannur was set up in the year 2008, at a temporary campus and later shifted to its current permanent campus in 2012. The UG programmes offered at NIFT Kannur are B.Des and BFT in various specialisations while PG programmes at NIFT Kannur include MFM and M.Des.
The serene 9.63-acre NIFT Kannur campus is located away from the busy towns but active within. Since the initial infrastructure support was given by the state government of Kerala, NIFT Kannur permits a reservation of 20% supernumerary seats for students of the state domicile.
NIFT Kannur earned itself a rank 13 out of 51 fashion design colleges in India in 2023 by India Today. NIFT Kannur admits students in accordance with its own national-level entrance exam. The well-equipped NIFT Kannur campus provides the students with a multitude of facilities that ensure a holistic development. NIFT Kannur has had many successful international collaborations and allows students to study abroad’ options through exchange programmes. The placement cell does an excellent job of getting students placed in the industry with stellar packages. NIFT Kannur Scholarship
To maximise the potential of its students, the institute's Means-cum-Merit Financial Assistance scheme allows students from humble backgrounds to avail of subsidised tuition fees. There are two scholarships provided by the institute- ‘SARTHAK NIFT Financial Assistance Scheme’ and ‘UDAAN- NIFT Scholarship Scheme for Foreign Studies’. SARTHAK enables financial assistance to meritorious, needy and deserving students, belonging to the economically weaker sections of society. UDAAN provides financial assistance to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections, to enable them to avail the scope of foreign studies as available in NIFT with collaborating partner institutions.

Eligibility criteria for application
The students who fulfil the following criteria may apply for the financial assistance under the SARTHAK scheme-
- Undergraduate and Postgraduate students of the regular programme of NIFT
- The students must fall within the parental income slab mentioned in the notification
- All the eligible first-year students may apply irrespective of their ranks and marks in the entrance exam
- A postgraduate student's eligibility will only be on the satisfaction of the Screening Committee if she/he is not able to provide collateral for availing the bank loan and his / her parental income falls within the prescribe income slabs
- For the continuation of financial assistance to the students in 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of undergraduate level and 2nd year of postgraduate level, minimum average 6.00 SGPA in the last two consecutive semesters will be a necessary condition. The students will be required to submit their application for continuation of financial assistance in the next year along with all the documents in the beginning of the semester
- The students getting any other financial assistance/reimbursement towards expenditure on education from any other source viz Central / State Government / PSU / Trusts / private persons etc shall not be eligible to apply for the financial assistance under this scheme.
The students who fulfil the following criteria may apply for financial assistance under the UDAAN scheme-
- Undergraduate students from semester 4 to semester 7 and postgraduate students reading in semester 2 and semester 3 would be eligible.
- Minimum academic performance required to be eligible for this scheme will be as per the norms specified by the I& DL for the respective Universities, in the last two consecutive semesters.
- The student should not have failed in any semester in the previous years of study in NIFT and must have cleared all the subjects of the previous semesters
- A processing fee of Rs. 2000/- will have to be submitted by the student along with the application forms. In case the student is granted the UDAAN Scholarship, the NIFT tuition fee will have to be borne by the student himself/herself.
- A penalty shall be imposed on students who have applied for the exchange but withdraw their names after selection thereby wasting an exchange opportunity

NIFT Kannur Admission
NIFT Kannur admissions are offered to 7 UG and PG courses in the field of Design, Fashion Technology and Fashion Management. NIFT Kannur admissions are offered to B.Des and M.Des programmes in various specialisations. Candidates seeking NIFT Kannur admissions have to take an entrance exam consisting of a Creative Ability Test (CAT) and a General Ability Test (GAT).
If the candidate gets shortlisted on the basis of the written test, then they have to appear for a situation test and a personal interview conducted by NIFT Kannur.
How to apply for NIFT Kannur admissions?
Candidates have to apply online at www.nift.ac.in.
The application fee has to be paid through an online payment gateway. The non-refundable fees for general candidates is ₹3000, while that for the SC/ST/PWD category candidates is ₹1500.
Once the online registration is complete, an admit card will be provided to the applicant.
Next, the applicant will need to take the NIFT Entrance Examination for all UG & PG programmes.
Course specialisation is given according to the score of the NIFT entrance examination.
