Nitte Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH), established in the year 2007, Mangaluru, Karnataka, is a specialised institution. As an affiliated college nestled in a 25 acre main academic complex, the college focuses on training qualified professionals in speech and hearing sciences. The college is affiliated with Mangalore University. NISH has a total student enrolment of 115 students and has a total of 8 faculty members, which enhances focused learning. Currently, the college offers three firm-based programmes for the degree at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels with a major focus on Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.

NISH has developed several functional facilities that have made a tremendous impact on the structured learning institutions by improving the learning facilities for the students. Apart from these, the institute has acquired well-facilitated laboratories where skills in speech and hearing sciences are practised. A well-equipped library with a good number of books, journals and periodicals is available to both students and faculty. 

The facilities include an event centre for seminars and congregational meetings that enhances the academic culture on the campus. NISH, being a student-friendly institute, also provides separate hostels for boys and girls to make students' living safer and more comfortable. The hostels have all the essentials of the modern world, from a smart App based mess, ‘Paaka-shale’, that enables the students to pre-order their meal. Other amenities available within the hostels include provisions for indoor and outdoor games, thus embracing a healthy break for the residents.

The institute currently provides a total of three courses, and all of them are full-time programmes. These include one undergraduate course (BASLP) – Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, and two postgraduate courses (MASLP) – Master of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, and M.Sc. Audiology. The total number of students that can be admitted in all courses is fifty-four; BASLP has thirty seats, whilst MASLP and M.Sc Audiology each have twelve seats. This limited intake makes it possible for a teacher to concentrate on teaching and also to attend individually to every child.

In its admittance criteria, NISH majorly depends on the performance of the students in their qualifying examinations. In the case of the undergraduate BASLP programme, the candidates are selected strictly on merit that has been obtained in the qualifying examination. Likewise, the entry of postgraduate programmes including MASLP and M.Sc. Audiology, is offered on merit. There is no precise requirement for an entrance examination for these courses, but rather it focuses on the scores of the exams of the candidates.
