Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya is a co-educational institution founded in the year 1978 at Guwahati in Assam. This affiliated college is accredited by NAAC and imparts various undergraduate and postgraduate levels of study. The campus covers an area of 4.58 acres, with a total student strength of 1,361 and a gender distribution of 58% male and 42% female. The institution offers 17 courses across 7 degrees, with the faculty strength of 35 dedicated educators. The specialisations offered are in the fields of Arts, Commerce, and Education. 

These various academic interests have been shaped by the Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya's pride in providing comprehensive facilities to enhance the learning experience. Late Bipin Chandra Barua Library has more than 25,000 books, journals, and newspapers. It also has a well-spaced reading room for 150 readers. It is supplemented by 25 desktop computers for departments and the library, and 29 in the language lab, with necessary peripherals. A girls' hostel with an intake capacity of 60 boarders is available in the campus for the benefit of female students coming from far-flung areas, ensuring a safe and convenient living environment. 

Courses at the undergraduate level include full-time BA and B.Com with multiple majors, and, similarly, at the postgraduate level, the institution offers MA courses in Assamese and Political Science. The institution also offers a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and a Diploma in Elementary Education  (D.El.Ed.).

Admission to Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya is done on the basis of merit, based on the marks secured in the qualifying examinations and entrance tests, as prescribed by the state government and university from time to time. Admissions to the D.El.Ed. Course shall be made on merit in the qualifying examination and through entrance examination as per the rules framed by the State Government and University.
