The Postgraduate Institute of Veterinary Education and Research (PGIVER), Himmatnagar, established on February 10, 2015, initially operated from Kamdhenu University’s headquarters in Gandhinagar and later shifted to its current campus at Rajpur (Nava), near Himmatnagar, on April 1, 2018. Situated about 6–9 km from the city on the Idar bypass highway, the institute is committed to being a torchbearer in veterinary education and research across Gujarat. It provides a strong platform for postgraduate teaching and research in veterinary science while also offering advanced clinical services and mobile veterinary clinics to support field-level veterinary care.

Postgraduate Institute of Veterinary Education and Research, Himmatnagar  is affiliated with the college Kamdhenu University, Gandhinagar. PGIVER offers M.V.Sc. (2-year) and Ph.D. (3-year) programs in multiple disciplines, including Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Veterinary Clinical Medicine, Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Veterinary Microbiology, Livestock Production and Management, Animal Genetics and Breeding, and Veterinary Extension Education. The institute admits students through an entrance test conducted between August and September, followed by merit-based counseling, while Ph.D. programs also allow applications from in-service candidates.

The institute offers a Ph.D programme in Livestock Production and Management, Veterinary Microbiology, Livestock Production and Management, Veterinary Gynecology and Obstetrics, Veterinary Clinical Medicine and Jurisprudence, and Animal Biotechnology. The institute boasts a fully functional Veterinary Hospital and Teaching Clinical Complex, which has treated over 5,000 clinical cases and processed more than 13,000 biomaterials since its launch in December 2019. It also features a Central Instrumentation Laboratory equipped with advanced tools such as PCR, ELISA, electrophoresis systems, research-grade microscopes, biochemical analyzers, ultrasound, X-ray, ECG machines, dental surgery kits, and animal simulators, supporting innovative research and clinical training.

PGIVER also emphasizes research and development, undertaking projects related to disease prevalence in animals, hair morphology studies, evaluation of foot-and-mouth disease vaccination, diagnostic approaches for bacterial mastitis, and hygiene practices in livestock barns. Collaborative research on parasites in freshwater fish is also in progress. The campus infrastructure includes a digital library equipped with EndNote™ and Koha, with planned access to platforms like CERA and J-Gate. Hostel facilities are under construction, with private accommodation currently arranged for students. Additionally, the campus provides recreational and sports facilities, including a volleyball ground, a gym, and a CCTV-enabled examination hall with a capacity of 100 students.

The institute is led by an experienced team of faculty members, including Dr. D. B. Patil (Director of Research & Dean PG Studies), Dr. P. H. Vataliya (Director of Extension Education), and several other specialized professors across clinical, genetic, management, and microbiological disciplines. PGIVER continues to grow as a premier center for veterinary education and research in Gujarat, offering excellent academic, clinical, and research opportunities for postgraduate students.
